Love cats and crafts? I have the purrfect crochet project for you!
I started crocheting these small blankets a few years ago as a fun way to make something cozy for my kitty while learning this new skill. Since then, I’ve donated dozens of these blankets to local animal shelters so that the senior and long-term cats in their care could have something comforting from someone who loved them while they waited for their furever home.
Whether you want to join me in sharing the love with shelter pets, or simply want to handcraft a blanket for your cat, keep reading!
My kitties are experts at helping me make the blankets—and testing them out! (Don’t worry, I make sure every blanket is washed before I donate them.)
Supplies Needed for the Blanket
1 skein of Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn
1 crochet hook
(That’s seriously it!)
How to Crochet the Cat Blanket
This is a very basic, beginner-friendly crochet pattern. Believe me when I say anyone can do this! It usually takes me a few hours to complete the entire project, but I’m sure a more advanced crafter could whip one up in no time at all!
Here’s how you do it:
- Create a slip knot and then chain stitch about 60 until your line is approximately two feet long.
- Turn and single crochet into every chain stitch.
- Chain stitch two, turn, and then double crochet into every single crochet.
- Chain stitch one, then repeat steps 2-4 until you have just enough yarn left to create a single crochet border around the perimeter of your blanket.
- Create the perimeter, tie off, weave in the ends, and you’re done!
