Petlibro Polar Automatic Wet Food Feeder for Cats: Full Review

Someone call the Jonas Brothers, because it feels like we’re in the year 3000 with this thing.

Automatic pet feeders have been around for a while, but it’s only recently that they’ve started working with wet food. I get it—it’s much easier to dump out a cup of kibble than it is to keep open wet food safe for pets to eat for long periods of time. But somehow, Petlibro managed to figure it out and provide us with this (pretty incredible) option for feeding our cats fresh wet food without having to pop open a can multiple times a day.

And thank goodness for that!

Why I Bought the Petlibro Polar Automatic Wet Food Feeder

You don’t have to be an animal nutritionist to know that fresh wet food is simply better for cats to eat than highly processed kibble.

Because I want to give my cats the healthiest food possible, I’ve been putting up with the mess of feeding them wet food multiple times a day, wishing there was a better way. But then I learned about the Petlibro Polar feeder and wanted to give it a try. I waited a while for them to work out the kinks in the first version (and until there was a Black Friday deal, to be honest). But once I made the purchase, there was no turning back.

How Does the Petlibro Polar Wet Food Feeder Work?

The Petlibro Polar Wet Food Feeder works pretty much as an automatic refrigerator. It’s seriously cool.

Petlibro goes into more detail on their website, but basically the feeder itself is a cooling box that opens up to have a tray with three different bowls. You can fill each bowl with wet cat food to the “max” fill line, then use the corresponding app on your phone to set a schedule for when you want your cats to be fed. The feeder will keep the food cool, then open up the tray to a designated bowl whenever you set the time for. Once the set feeding time is over, the feeder will close and continue to keep all of the food cool.

You can also manually open the feeder for your cats via the app, which I love. So do my cats, who have already learned that I’m a total sucker who will open it up for them to have a snack each time they sit by it and meow.

Now let’s get into the good stuff.

What I Love About the Petlibro Polar Feeder

  • Keeps Wet Food Fresh for Three Days: One of my cats is a grazer who will lick the juice off of their food, then leave it to sit until a few hours later when she’s hungry again. That’s not a good thing. Wet food has a very short lifespan, so if a cat eats food that sits out, they could get sick. This led to us wasting a lot of food over the years. However, the Petlibro saves her leftovers and keeps them fresh—and safe—until she’s ready to eat again. I’m not kidding when I say the feeder paid for itself in the first week since we no longer were wasting half-eaten cans.
  • Large Bowl Capacity: A lot of times, my cats will eat food that comes in smaller containers, like Sheba or Fancy Feast petites. Thankfully, the Petlibro allows enough room in their bowls for me to put a couple in each slot. This means my two cats can still share a bowl without me having to refill the entire thing quite so often.
  • Sleek Design: I’m not going to lie, one of the reasons I didn’t buy this feeder when it first came out was because I didn’t love the black style. Everything else I own for my cats is white (LitterRobot 4, bowls, beds, etc.), so it was a no-brainer that I picked the white style when it came out. It has a simple, sleek design that complements the rest of the cats’ accessories, and surprisingly doesn’t take up as much room as I thought it would.

What My Cats Love About the Petlibro Polar Feeder

  • Cat-Friendly Design: I was worried that my picky cats would have a hard time adjusting to the new feeder, but I was wrong! One cat ate out of it immediately, while the other just took a couple of feedings to warm up to. Now they both love it and prefer eating from it than their regular bowls. While I wish the opening was a little more whisker friendly, I do like that it sits up high for them like a typical raised cat food bowl.
  • Ding Ding!: When the tray opens, the Petlibro gives a nice “ding ding”, and the girls go running to their room to eat. It took no time at all for the cats to learn that the bell chimes meant food was served!

What I Wish Was Different About the Petlibro Polar Feeder

  • Noisy Standby Sounds: If you’re planning to keep your Petlibro Polar in your bedroom like I do, be warned that it isn’t the quietest. It has a constant low hum when it’s running, like you may expect any refrigerator to. It’s not a dealbreaker by any means—just a bit annoying.
  • No Way to Know Which Trays are Full: Since we like to use the manual feeding feature, there’s no way to not know which bowls are full or empty unless you’re standing in the same room checking. I’ve also noticed that the feeder will move bowl positions on its own when closed. So even if you think you have it set to open to a bowl with food, you could be wrong—and your cat could be very disappointed! I’d love if future versions came with a weight sensor to let me know via the app with bowls still had some food and which were slicked clean by the cats already.
  • Can’t Tell Which Cat Ate: Because I have two cats, I can’t know for sure who ate what unless I’m in the room while it happens or if a cat shows up smacking her lips after I’ve opened the feeder for her. It’d be nice if the Petlibro Polar had a small camera on it like other automatic pet feeders so that I could go back in my app and see which cat ate.

Do I Recommend the Petlibro Polar Wet Food Feeder?

Yes! While there are still some quirks to the feeder I’d like to see improved one day, I already LOVE the current version of the Petlibro Polar Wet Food Feeder for cats. It has saved me a ton of time, effort, and money—and I’ve only had it a few weeks!

The best part is that my cats love it, too.
