Halloween is terrifying.
If you’re a cat, that is.
Strangers arriving at your house, loud screams on the tv, flashing lights in the decorations…they all add up to a pretty intense time for our companion animals.
But there are ways you can help lessen your cat’s Halloween anxiety while keeping them safe and happy.
Check it out.
Four Ways to Keep Your Cat Happy on Halloween
Turn Off the Doorbell
It’s 2023. We all have video doorbells. Go into your app and choose to not have your bell ring in your house during Halloween. This should help to keep your kitty from getting overstimulated with all of the commotion.
Give Her a Safe Place to Hide
Your cat will probably want to curl up and hide from your spooky neighbors. Let her. Actually, encourage her. Turn off the lights in your bedroom, give her fresh food and water, and shut the door. If you’re like me and prefer to hide away on the holiday too, join your kitty for a quiet night of reading or watching a movie.
Use a Calming Spray
I love Jackson Galaxy’s line of holistic solutions for pets. Just a few sprays helps calm my cats down. While it won’t solve all of the issues trick or treaters cause, it will help provide a little bit of peace for your kitty.
Pro Tip: Start spraying the solution around the room you plan to keep your cat in on Halloween a few days prior to help it really soak in.
Keep Candy Away From Your Cat (Decorations Too)
If your cats are anything like mine, chances are they like to sniff out and explore every little new thing in your house. Keep them safe by storing candy and harmful decorations far out of reach. The only thing scarier than Halloween is an emergency trip to the vet.
However you choose to celebrate, may you and your kitty have a safe and happy holiday!
